Chase the Enemy

After winning Gt Baddow Battle of the bands and Y Fest, Chase the Enemy are fast making a name for themselves. A number of local gigs, including Panic Live, and a new video has kept them firmly on the map.

So, who are you?

Josh: Were called Chase the Enemy, im Josh I play bass.
Thomas B: I’m Tom and I play rhythm.
James: My name is James and I play lead guitar.
Tom M: I’m Thomas and I’m the drummer.
Jessica: Hi I’m Jess and I’m the singer.

How long have you been together?

Jessica: Thomas and James formed the band in 2009. So three years. There were a few changes. Tom has only been in the band for a few months.

How did you all meet?

James: After talking about it in a PE lesson, Thomas and I decided to start a band with several members in our class. We went through several practices and band members left and came, and we ended up with the members we have now since summer 2010. We all know each other from school and we’ve all been good friends throughout the whole time.

What style of music do you play?

Tom: We play music ranging from Norwegian black metal to western RnB.
Josh: Occasionally we play salsa.
Jessica: Haha, nah we play rock, alternative, pop-punk kinda stuff.

How long did it take you to find your sound?

Jessica: A while. We wrote three songs before Tom and Josh were in the band, all three of which we don’t use or play anymore but they really helped us find out what we liked and what we didn’t like. Then we wrote Weigh Me Down
and we were all like, “yeah this is what we want to do” and just carried on.

What do you think sets you apart from other acts in Chelmsford?

Jessica: Well first of all there is a lot of metal bands around Chelmsford so it kind of sets us apart from them but there is also a load of indie so we’re different from that to.

Can you give us a rundown of what you have done since you got together?

Josh: Last summer we performed in the Y Fest in central park, it was a battle of the bands and we managed to win that. It happened to be the first real gig we did with [Thomas] Bellman in the band so it was a good start.
Thomas: Also we have done many other gigs around Chelmsford like at the Y Club, Barhouse and RBL. We also played in London once at Bridgehouse 2. It’s
been great playing gigs. we’ve got loads of stuff lined up for you guys too.
Josh: also we won the Battle of the Bands at Great Baddow which was great and got a free day of recording through it.

What do you have planed for the immediate future?

James: Lots of gigs lined up and stuff, we’ve just recorded three songs and they’re soon going to be on our facebook page.
Josh: And we will have CDs and that to hand out at gigs, we’re also writing new songs for you.

Is there anyone you want to thank for helping you get this far?

Josh: Jessica and Thomas’s mother for sitting in at our practice like every Sunday afternoon for three hours.
Thomas: Andy Frost for teaching me to play drums, and some man called Gary…
Tom: Wanna say thank you to Marc, Steph and Paul at A.T. Music Studios for doing a brilliant job on our songs.
James: And all of our parents for runnin us around everywhere and venues for letting us play.
Jessica: Ohh and not forgetting Shakey for playing us on his radio station.

Where would you like to be in five years?

James: Intergalactic. We would like to play on the moon. But no, in all seriousness we would like to be quite renowned in our area and perhaps other places.
Jessica: I’d just like to be playing in more places around England, you know, anywhere we can. That’d be perfect.

Where would you like to be in ten years?

Tom: Touring the world.
Josh: Haha that would be nice, but like yeah just wanna be well known by a lot of people and perhaps play big venues in London, say Brixton.

Where would you want to play if you could play anywhere?

All: Brixton O2 Academy, most definitely.

If you could support any band or artist who would it be?

Tom: Biffy Clyro
Jessica: My Chemical Romance
Thomas: Muuuuuusssssseeeee
James: Young Guns
