This Thursday, 25th October, Hooga is hosting the first annual Chelmsford Comedian of the Year final. Twenty acts from the length and breadth of the UK will all be given just five minutes to impress the audience and judges for a chance to win a cash prize, the CCOTY trophy, and a paid spot at Chelmsford’s Comedy Showcase.
Each act will perform in front of a panel of prominent comedy promoters and members of the entertainment press, whose marks will be combined with an audience response rating to form the final scores.
“The competition received an truly overwhelming response, with many hundreds of comics keen to take part” said organiser Ben Cormack. “It’s been very difficult to whittle the list down, but what we’ve ended up with is quite astonishing. There are numerous acts in the final who are going to make up the next generation of big-name TV comedians, and to have the chance to see them all together in Chelmsford is very exciting indeed”.
